What Action Could Be Taken Now?

This is a list of legislative actions that could be taken by Congress now. The problem is that despite over whelming public support, many representatives are opposed to these measures hindering 

Measures to Strengthen Democratic Institutions


Supreme Court Ethics Recusal and Transparency (SCERT) Act


Pass an Enforceable Code of Judicial Ethics for Supreme Court Justices

Pass the Real Courts Rule of Law Act ensuring consistent application of the rule of law across all courts

Pass a Judicial Travel Accountability Act to increase transparency regarding judicial travel and related expenses


Pass the TERM Act implementing 18 term limits for Supreme Court Justices


Create Court Reform Now Task Force to Expand the Court


Overturn Citizens United reducing corporate influence in politics


Institute a Pilot Program for Public Financing for Campaigns creating public financing options for political campaigns to reduce dependency on big donors


Pass the DISCLOSE Act to increase transparency in political spending by requiring disclosure of donors


Pass Stricter Coordination Rules Between Super PACs and Campaigns to tighten regulations to prevent coordination between Super PACs and political campaigns


Pass SEC Regulations for Transparent Political Expenditures mandating that corporations disclose political expenditures to shareholders


Pass Whistleblower Protections strengthening protections for whistleblowers in the public and private sectors


Direct Federal Agencies to Facilitate Automatic Voter Registration


Designate Voting Day as a National Holiday


Pass the Voting Rights Act Restoration


Create a Commission to Study Ranked Choice Voting


Create Independent Redistricting Commissions to handle redistricting, reducing gerrymandering


Pass Ethics and Lobbying Laws placing restrictions on gifts, travel, and other financial benefits for public officials.

Ban judicial lobbying


Pass the Anti-Corruption and Public Integrity Act banning stock ownership by members of Congress, federal judges, and senior officials


End lobbying influence by banning foreign lobbying, preventing lobbyists from donating to candidates, and imposing a lifetime ban on lobbying by former members of Congress, Presidents, and agency heads


Non-partisan Appointment Commission ensuring merit-based appointments through a non-partisan commission to recommend judicial and key administrative appointments


Implementation of the Corporate Transparency Act (CTA) to prevent criminals from using shell companies to launder money


Enhance Financial transparency to include real estate transactions and corporate registrations

Anti-Corruption Coordination establishing  a coordinating body across the Departments of State, Treasury, Commerce, and USAID to combat corruption


Enhance Sanctions and Enforcement by implementing visa restrictions and financial sanctions against individuals involved in significant corruption and their immediate family members


Implement Asset Recovery Programs to identify and recover stolen assets linked to corruption


Support Investigative Journalism to provide funding and support for investigative journalism that exposes corruption


Enhanced Oversight and Accountability Measures to conduct regular audits of government officials' financial disclosures


Introduce Severe Penalties for Violations with clear processes for imposing sanctions, removal,  forced recusals, including imprisonment, for public officials found guilty of serious corruption-related offenses
